Every trek listed here is one we've actually done with the dogs — nothing on this page is secondhand. If you've taken your own dog somewhere that isn't on this list, we'd love to hear how it went; get in touch and we'll add it in.
One thing worth understanding before you start picking a route: dogs are allowed in Nepal's conservation areas, but not in its national parks. That's why Annapurna is well represented here — it's a conservation area — but you won't find Everest Base Camp on this list. That route runs through Sagarmatha National Park, where dogs simply aren't permitted, however well-behaved yours might be.
If you'd rather sort permits yourself rather than leave it to a guide, you can pick them up in person from the tourism office in Kathmandu or Pokhara. You'll need your passport, a passport photo, and to fill out a form on the day — for some treks they'll also ask for proof of medical insurance. Or, if you're using a guide, they'll usually handle all of this for you as part of booking.
